Celebrity Insurance
The world of Celebrity Insurance often causes much laughter with some of the weird and wonderful stories which have been released. Whether you are looking at Angelina Jolie insuring her body for $1 billion, or 1920s movie star Ben Turpin insuring his “crossed eyes” from uncrossing (costing $20,000) there are many weird and wonderful examples around. But why do they do it?
In reality the vast number of celebrities are insuring there most famous asset against damage, because they know that if something were to happen to it then their income could be substantially reduced. While Miss Jolie has a number of talents, she is probably best known for her body which brings her a lot of lucrative contracts – would they still follow if she was disfigured in some way? Ben Turpin was famous for his “crossed eyes” and this is what made him stand out from the other silent movie actors. While he could act, what would make him stand out if his eyes uncrossed?
While much of the area of Celebrity Insurance sounds a little vein and over the top, it is simply a way of insuring your best assets. Without these “assets” many of the stars of today and yesteryear would never have been brought to our attention – they are just insuring their unique “selling” points, something which any good business should always do.
